The third edition of the scheme, organised under the Renewed Hope Initiative, took place at the Katsina Government House with the theme “Finding Joy in Old Age,” drawing beneficiaries from all 34 local government areas of the state.

Each beneficiary received a cash grant of ₦200,000, alongside free medical check-ups and essential household items, aimed at easing financial pressure and improving access to basic healthcare for elderly citizens.

Speaking through the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, Senator Tinubu said the Remi Tinubu Katsina elderly support programme reflects a deliberate effort to honour senior citizens who contributed to Nigeria’s development.

The First Lady noted that the initiative was designed to reduce hardship among elderly Nigerians and provide dignity in old age, particularly for those aged 65 and above who are most vulnerable to rising living costs.

According to her, the scheme targets 250 beneficiaries in each of the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans linked to the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, with ₦50 million allocated per location.

She added that the Renewed Hope Initiative remains committed to inclusive social protection, describing senior citizens as a vital part of the nation’s social fabric whose welfare must not be neglected.
