The company, valued at roughly $15 billion, spans food production, cement, infrastructure, and heavy industry, making the succession a critical move for both the business and the Nigerian economy.

Khalifa currently serves as Chief Officer for Global Procurement and Strategic Operations at BUA Foods, overseeing supply chains, cost optimisation, and strategic sourcing.

He previously led major transformation projects, including strategic wheat sourcing, the launch of a 40-metric-tonne animal feed mill, and modernisation of rice production operations.

His operational reforms aim to mitigate foreign exchange volatility and sustain profitability.

The conglomerate’s value is anchored in BUA Foods (≈₦14.38 trillion) and BUA Cement (≈₦6.50 trillion), with BUA Cement’s valuation rising over 118% in one year, reflecting strong demand in Nigeria’s construction sector.

The company’s total market capitalisation reached approximately ₦20.88 trillion ($15.46 billion) by early 2026.

Founder Abdul Samad Rabiu retains overwhelming control, holding ≈93% of BUA Foods and ≈98% of BUA Cement, ensuring strategic guidance during the gradual succession process.

Khalifa’s rise reflects careful preparation rather than entitlement, with a measured transfer of operational responsibilities.

Khalifa, named after his grandfather Khalifah Isyaku Rabiu, combines operational experience with global credentials, holding a degree in International Relations from Regent’s University London and a Master’s in Management from Georgetown University.

This education equips him to manage complex supply chains and expand BUA’s influence internationally.

Beyond business, the Rabiu family maintains political and economic influence.

Khalifa’s mother, Hannatu Musawa, serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, enhancing the family’s reach across business and policy circles.

Khalifa Rabiu’s appointment underscores a structured succession in Africa’s industrial landscape.
