Zamfara State achieves historic milestone as aircraft lands at Gusau International Airport for the first time in over 30 years

Zamfara State has marked a historic moment as an aircraft successfully landed at Gusau International Airport for the first time since the state’s creation over three decades ago.

Governor Dauda Lawal witnessed the development on Sunday, describing it as a landmark for the state’s aviation ambitions.

The test landing, conducted by the Federal Government, sets the stage for scheduled VIP flights in the coming week.

According to the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 605 with registration 5N-FGZ, touched down around 4:30 p.m. as part of a one-off operational assessment to evaluate the airport’s readiness.

Governor Lawal said, “Today will remain a historic day in the history of Zamfara State as Governor Lawal witnessed the landing of the maiden flight at the Gusau International Airport. The aircraft performed a one-off test to assess the airport’s capability for VIP movements scheduled next week.”

The flight complied fully with regulatory requirements. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had earlier granted a one-time ‘No Technical Objection’ to permit the landing.

The operation was conducted under Visual Flight Rules, limiting activity to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset.

Officials believe that the successful landing strengthens confidence in Gusau Airport, a key project in Zamfara State’s infrastructure development plans, and underscores the administration’s commitment to improving transport links and connectivity.
