The telecommunications group disclosed the latest update in a regulatory filing submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, outlining transactions executed through Barclays Capital Securities Limited across multiple international trading platforms.

According to the filing, the company carried out several purchase rounds between June 15 and June 19, 2026, acquiring shares in incremental batches across different trading days.

Records show that Airtel Africa bought 69,556 shares on June 15, 118,613 shares on June 16, and 145,391 shares on June 17, with varying weighted average prices recorded during the period.

Since the launch of the programme on May 22, 2026, the company has accumulated a total of 7,731,552 ordinary shares from the open market.

The repurchase operations were carried out across exchanges including the London Stock Exchange, BATS Europe, CHI-X Europe, Aquis Exchange and Turquoise.

Airtel Africa confirmed that the repurchased shares will be cancelled upon completion of the buyback process, effectively reducing its total outstanding share capital.

Market observers say the move could improve the company’s earnings per share and strengthen returns on equity by lowering the number of shares in circulation.
