OAU ’97 Accounting Graduates Give Back to Alma Mater

The Accounting graduates, 1997 class of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have donated some items to the institution.
This is part of the activities marking the silver jubilee graduation celebrations of the 1997 set.
The ex-students donated multiplex photocopying machines, multimedia projectors with screens, mobile public address systems, and 1.5hp split air conditioning units as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility project (CSR) to their former department.
A team made up of the President, Jeremiah Adeyemi; General Secretary Najeem Ajani; Director of Impact Projects and Welfare Mutiu Olayiwola; Asst. General Secretary Bunmi Olowonyo; Financial Secretary Eunice Okunlola, and other members, visited the university to hand over learning aids to the Department of Management and Accounting of the school.
The team was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Administration Professor, Fagbohun, Vice Dean Dr Salawu, Head of the Department of Management and Accounting, Professor Grace Akinola, and other senior staff of the department including Professor Salawu.
Adeyemi said the items donated to the department symbolised their appreciation of the work the department did in shaping them into responsible adults in the society.

The African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) is set to unveil the Herbert Wigwe Memorial Garden in celebration of its 10th Anniversary. The public is invited to the unveiling ceremony scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Redeemer’s University in Ede, Nigeria.
The garden is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, a strong advocate and supporter of ACEGID. It will serve as a tribute to his significant contributions to the organization, his humanitarian impact, and his dedication to improving the lives of others. Additionally, the garden will symbolize the enduring partnership between Access Bank and ACEGID, showcasing their joint commitment to advancing scientific research and public health initiatives.
The unveiling of the Herbert Wigwe Memorial Garden precedes a series of events planned for October 7th to 9th, 2024. These activities will include ACEGID’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, the One Health Genomics Symposium, and the inauguration of the new ACEGID Genomics Centre, a state-of-the-art facility made possible through the support of Access Bank.
Dr. Christian Happi, the Director of ACEGID, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the community and eagerly anticipates welcoming participants to this significant occasion.

Rtn. Dare Adeyeri, the former President of the Rotary Club of Lagos, marked his 60th birthday on 19 September 2024 with the launch of his new book titled, “Go Giver” at a high-profile event held at the prestigious Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In this thought-provoking book, Adeyeri reflects on the profound impact of giving—whether material or non-material—and the fulfilment it brings to both the giver and receiver. He emphasises that giving creates a better world, with the act of giving being closely tied to receiving.
Adeyeri describes “Go Giving” and “Go Giver” as concepts that challenge the popular notions of “go-getting” and being a “go-getter”.
He argues that while ambition and drive are essential, true success comes from selflessly giving and making a difference in the lives of others.
He explains that giving can take many forms beyond money, such as offering help, time, or even a simple smile. Active givers, as he calls them, do not wait for opportunities to give—they seek them out and do so without expecting anything in return.
The star-studded birthday celebration was attended by notable figures from Nigeria’s business community, including representatives from Rotary Districts 9111 and 9112, Sky Capital Group, First Marina Trust and GTBank, with its co-founder Fola Adeola.
The celebrant’s family, friends, former classmates, and members of the Parkview Residential Association also graced the occasion.
During the book review session, Elder Urum Kalu “UK” Eke, MFR, former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings Plc, praised Adeyeri for his generosity and the insights shared in Go Giver.
He remarked, “This book reflects Dare Adeyeri’s lifelong commitment to philanthropy. He is someone who not only understands what he wants but also how to help others achieve their goals.”
Born in Owo, Ondo State, Adeyeri is the 23rd child of his parents.
He obtained a BSc in Computer Science from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1988 and has since earned several international qualifications, including an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has served on the boards of multiple companies and continues to be a key player in Nigeria’s business sector.
In line with his charitable values, Adeyeri has established an endowment within the Rotary Foundation, committed to initiatives that support women, children and education. He is a member of the Arch Klumph Society (AKS), the highest donor circle of The Rotary Foundation.
The event concluded with a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony led by Adeyeri and his wife, Ann, followed by an evening of music and dancing as guests enjoyed the festivities and reflected on the power of giving.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s GFF Rolls Out Second Phase of Interest-Free Microfinance

The Gateway Front Foundation (GFF), under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, FNSE FAEng, is set to launch the second batch of its Interest-Free Microcredit Scheme on September 16, 2024. This initiative, designed to uplift petty traders, artisans, and farmers within the Ogun East Senatorial District, will take place at Obalofin Court, GRA Ijebu-Ode, beginning at 10:00 AM.

The upcoming event continues the momentum established by the highly successful first batch of the program, which saw over 400 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) benefit from interest-free loans. The inaugural edition, launched in the previous year, provided critical financial support that enabled beneficiaries to expand their businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the local economy.
Building on this success, the second batch will not only provide interest-free microcredits but also introduce an agricultural empowerment component. This includes the distribution of fertilisers to farmers, a move aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and supporting food security efforts in Ogun East. The combined impact of these initiatives reflects Senator Gbenga Daniel’s unwavering commitment to economic development and sustainability within the region.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, known for his visionary approach to governance and community development, expressed his enthusiasm for the continued success of the GFF programs. “Our goal is to ensure that every petty trader, artisan, and farmer in Ogun East has the opportunity to grow their business, improve their livelihood, and contribute to the overall prosperity of our community,” he said.
The Gateway Front Foundation invites all eligible petty traders, artisans, and farmers to attend the launch event. Stakeholders and interested parties will have the opportunity to learn more about how they can benefit from this transformative program.
