African Action Congress condemns recent Anambra attacks, urging authorities to act decisively to protect residents and deliver justice
The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the December 7, 2025, gunmen attacks on residents in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area, and St Andrews Anglican Church in Lilu, Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, describing the incidents as unacceptable and calling for immediate government action.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Anyanwu Chinedu, urged authorities to prioritise security reforms, community engagement, and economic empowerment to address the root causes of insecurity.
Chinedu highlighted that armed hoodlums, suspected kidnappers, have intensified violent activities in both rural and urban areas in recent weeks.
“Insecurity in Anambra State has become a pressing concern, with kidnapping, banditry, cultism, and armed robbery on the rise,” the statement said, referencing communities including Isseke, Umunze, Ogbunka, Nanka, and Awka.
The AAC condemned the attacks on civilians, emphasising that the killing of several people in Nawfia and the assault on a church in Lilu are unacceptable.
“We demand immediate attention and decisive action to protect citizens and bring perpetrators to justice,” Chinedu said.
Residents have expressed concerns that kidnappers view abductions as a lucrative business due to high ransoms, while some allege that security forces may be indirectly allowing the violence to continue.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, four people were killed in Nawfia during a violent attack near Afor Market Junction, attributed to a clash between rival cult groups.
Police spokesman Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga said assailants in a black Lexus Jeep opened fire indiscriminately.
Separately, an attack at St Andrews Anglican Church in Lilu left two people dead, including the priest’s wife, and saw vehicles and the cleric’s residence set ablaze.

Chinedu concluded by expressing solidarity with victims’ families and urging the state government to implement urgent measures to restore peace and security across Anambra State.
