The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Ahmed Galadima, has welcomed the reported defection of 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, describing the development as a boost to the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, by his media aide, Adamu Sambo.
The APC candidate congratulated the defectors, saying their decision reflected an understanding of the state’s changing political landscape and a commitment to working towards its development.
“Their choice reflects political foresight and an understanding that the future of our state is best served by unity, purposeful leadership and a shared commitment to development,” Galadima said.
He described the movement of the local government chairmen and councillors into the APC as an important political development that could expand the party’s presence at the grassroots level.
Galadima also commended Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for what he described as his inclusive leadership and efforts to build bridges across political divides.
According to the APC candidate, the governor’s political engagements have contributed to the party’s growing appeal in the state.
He further linked the defections to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that the movement of elected local government officials and other grassroots political structures into the APC could strengthen cooperation within the party ahead of the next general elections.
Galadima said the development presented an opportunity to deepen collaboration, improve governance and respond to the needs and aspirations of Adamawa residents.
The reported defections come as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with movements among elected officials and party members expected to remain a feature of political activity across the country.
However, Galadima’s comments reflect the APC candidate’s assessment of the development, while the longer-term political implications of the defections remain to be seen.
