Adamawa military sector reinforced under Operation Hadin Kai to block terrorist movement and protect vulnerable communities in northern Adamawa
The Nigerian military has strengthened its operations in Adamawa State with the creation of Sector 4 under Operation Hadin Kai to block terrorist movement between Borno and northern Adamawa.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, disclosed this on Thursday while receiving Defence Correspondents in his Maiduguri office.
Major General Abubakar explained that the operation initially consisted of three sectors, but the fourth sector was established to enable rapid troop response to threats in northern Adamawa.
The move is designed to protect isolated communities that are particularly vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
“There is a village in northern Adamawa, just 50 kilometres from Borno, yet it took our troops almost five hours to reach that community. It’s virtually inaccessible,” Abubakar said.
“The sector is doing a lot to ensure these communities are protected.”
The Theatre Commander emphasised that troop deployment is guided by strategic threat assessments rather than attempting coverage of every location, ensuring daily operational reviews to maximise protection.
Addressing concerns over the recent suicide bombing in Maiduguri, Abubakar described terrorist attacks as the “kick of a dying horse,” noting that insurgents resort to desperate tactics such as suicide bombings and Improvised Explosive Devices when they cannot match the military’s kinetic operations.
He revealed that 15 would-be suicide bombers have been arrested, with three neutralised, and the mastermind of the Maiduguri mosque attack apprehended.
Abubakar also addressed the use of armed drones by ISWAP, stating that the group obtains technology through international terror networks, including ISIS affiliates in Libya and Syria.
He stressed that the military has developed standard operating procedures to neutralise these drones and deployed technical equipment to mitigate threats.
“An armed drone does not have a single solution. Even advanced nations like Ukraine and Russia face challenges. Multiple approaches are required, and we are implementing these in the theatre,” Abubakar said.
