Adamu Garba Israel remarks spark debate after APC chieftain defends Israel and warns against collective religious condemnation in post on X

Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria, on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, issued a controversial statement on the social media platform X in which he commented on Israel, religious interpretation, and broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

In the post, Adamu Garba argued that some of the best humans on earth are from Israel, urging what he described as a more nuanced understanding of religious identity and opposing collective condemnation of Jewish people.

The APC chieftain stated that Islam does not condemn all Jews, but rather individuals who deviate from religious teachings, adding that similar deviations, in his view, can be found across other faiths including Christianity and Islam. The remarks quickly triggered a heated online reaction, reflecting the sensitive nature of the subject.

Garba further emphasised that individuals who uphold justice and moral conduct exist across all religious groups, insisting that such people deserve “life, liberty and peace” regardless of nationality or belief. His comments were framed as part of a wider reflection on fairness and religious interpretation.

In a powerful extension of his argument, Adamu Garba Israel remarks referenced historical contributions of Jewish communities, describing them as significant across various civilisations and centuries, while cautioning against blanket judgments based on religious or ethnic identity.

He also cited Qur’anic references, including Surah Ali Imran (3:113), to support his position that not all People of the Book should be viewed in the same way, noting that righteousness and devotion vary among individuals.

The statement has since generated significant discussion online, with supporters praising its conciliatory tone while critics questioned its timing and framing amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Garba added that he is currently conducting further research on the subject, suggesting that his views may continue to evolve as part of a broader intellectual inquiry.
