ADC judiciary compromise allegations emerge as Aondowase claims plot to influence judiciary and block ADC participation in 2027 elections

Public affairs analyst and civic society advocate Julius Aondowase has alleged that the Presidency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is exploring measures to influence the judiciary in a bid to weaken the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Aondowase made the claim in a statement issued on Tuesday, asserting that growing momentum around the African Democratic Congress, particularly in northern Nigeria, has triggered concern within the ruling political establishment.

According to him, the ADC judiciary compromise allegations stem from an alleged high level meeting reportedly held in Abuja on Monday, which he said involved Senior Advocates of Nigeria and members of the judiciary.

He claimed the discussions centred on strategies aimed at preventing the opposition party from participating in the forthcoming elections.

He further alleged that the outcome of the meeting included plans to challenge the legitimacy of the party’s leadership structure, particularly the National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark.

Aondowase suggested that ongoing litigation surrounding the party is part of a broader political strategy.

Aondowase described the alleged development as a serious threat to democratic processes, warning that attempts to manipulate judicial outcomes could undermine public confidence in state institutions.

He maintained that such actions, if true, would represent a deliberate effort to control opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

The analyst also linked the situation to wider political tensions, noting that the rising profile of the African Democratic Congress has continued to attract attention from both supporters and critics across the political spectrum.

He argued that the party’s growing influence may be reshaping early calculations ahead of the next general election.

These allegations come amid a series of political statements and counter-statements from various stakeholders regarding the strength and future of opposition parties in Nigeria.

No official response has been issued by the Presidency or the All Progressives Congress regarding the claims.
