The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State has clarified that it will not adopt zoning for the 2027 governorship election, opting instead to focus on merit and performance.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr Bimpe Adelowo, made this known to journalists on Thursday in Ibadan.

“Our party is prioritizing merit and competence, not this sentimental and divisive agenda of zoning. We want the best candidate for Oyo State, Nigeria, and every sector of the country,” Adelowo said.

He added that confining the governorship to Oke-Ogun or any specific zone would be counterproductive if the candidate from that area is unable to deliver good governance.

“We are seeking someone who will implement party manifestos, policies, and programmes, and deliver the dividend of democracy to residents,” he said.

Adelowo also commended residents for their resilience amid challenges under the Governor Seyi Makinde-led PDP administration, citing the peaceful protests over the state’s circular roads as an example of civic responsibility.

He concluded by urging Oyo residents to stay hopeful and actively participate in electing ADC candidates across all positions in the state for the 2027 elections.
