ADC’s Ladan Salihu says governors defecting to APC treat President Bola Tinubu as a “tin god,” ignoring God’s role in their political success

Ladan Salihu has criticized Nigerian governors defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress, claiming many now see President Bola Tinubu as a “tin god” capable of securing their political future.

Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Salihu argued that some governors believe Tinubu can guarantee their electoral success rather than relying on the mandate and support that originally brought them to office.

“Politicians tend to forget. They were empowered by God to be there. They have now adopted President Bola Tinubu as their own tin god. They believe he can give them power and a platform to win elections,” Salihu said.

He further highlighted that history shows mass defections do not always translate to electoral victories, referencing the PDP’s experience with losing elections despite having numerous governors.

Salihu expressed shock at the political calculations driving these moves, questioning the reliance on human power over divine guidance.

“Governors rush out of the parties where they won convincingly to join the ruling party. It’s flabbergasting the kind of politics we play,” he added.
