Fulham coach Marco Silva explains why Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi cannot rest, highlighting squad depth issues after FA Cup win over Stoke City
Fulham manager Marco Silva revealed why Alex Iwobi cannot be rested in matches, even after their FA Cup victory over Stoke City.
Despite making ten changes from the team that lost 3-0 to Manchester City, Iwobi remained in the starting lineup as the only player retained.
Silva cited a lack of alternative options in the squad as the reason for Iwobi’s consistent starts.
Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Iwobi has featured in 448 of 450 possible minutes across all competitions this season.
He nearly marked his 100th game for Fulham with a goal against Stoke City, narrowly missing with a header.
The Portuguese coach emphasized that squad depth limitations make resting Iwobi challenging, even though it would have been ideal to give him a break.
