AMNI Okoro Field Rig mobilised for a three-well campaign, boosting indigenous oil production and reinforcing Nigeria’s upstream capabilities
AMNI International Petroleum Development Company has mobilised a drilling rig to its Okoro Field, signalling the start of a three-well offshore development campaign and marking a significant operational milestone for the indigenous operator.
The Okoro Field campaign aims to optimise production, enhance reservoir management, sustain base output, and increase peak production to over 12,000 barrels per day.
The initiative forms part of AMNI’s five-year Strategic Development Plan, which prioritises production optimisation, accelerated oil development, and expanded gas commercialisation.
AMNI’s investment underscores a commitment of over US$2.5 billion across oil and gas projects, with expected peak production exceeding 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Chief Executive Officer Chief (Dr.) Tunde J. Afolabi highlighted that the campaign demonstrates disciplined capital deployment and operational execution grounded in over three decades of offshore experience.
“The mobilisation of the rig to Okoro represents tangible execution against strategy rather than symbolic expansion,” Dr. Afolabi said.
“Sustainable growth for indigenous operators must be grounded in operational excellence, prudent capital allocation, and long-term value creation.”
The campaign also reinforces AMNI’s contribution to Nigeria’s national production goals, including the Federal Government’s target of 3 million barrels per day, while highlighting the critical role of indigenous operators in sustaining production and extending field life.
Beyond Okoro, AMNI’s broader corporate strategy includes advancement of the Tubu oil field and accelerated gas development projects, reflecting a forward-looking approach to integrated oil and gas growth.
The Okoro campaign illustrates the capability of local operators to manage complex offshore drilling programmes, deploy substantial capital, and implement multi-year development strategies.
As final pre-spud preparations are completed offshore, the arrival of the rig stands as both a practical operational step and a strategic statement, signalling resilience, confidence, and long-term planning in Nigeria’s indigenous upstream sector.
