Anambra Police Make Breakthrough as Cultist Confession Uncovers Crime Network
Anambra cultist arrest confession as police detain suspected executioner linked to killings and kidnappings in a major cult crackdown operation
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist, Favour Izunna, also known as Njoku, who allegedly confessed to being an executioner involved in multiple killings and kidnapping operations across parts of the state.

The confession was confirmed in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit, Enugwu Ukwu, on 30 April 2026 in Obosi.
According to the police, the 22-year-old suspect is believed to be a member of a cult group identified as the Vikings Confraternity and allegedly played a central role in violent activities linked to insecurity in the area.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in the killing of several individuals, though he specifically named three victims he could recall, while suggesting that the total number may be higher.
The police statement also indicated that the suspect allegedly revealed the involvement of sponsors who contracted him for targeted attacks within the community, a claim now under investigation.
Operatives, with support from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, recovered weapons during the operation, including a pump-action gun, a locally made pistol, live cartridges and ammunition.
The suspect further confessed to participating in multiple kidnapping incidents, including abductions linked to identified victims within the state.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has ordered intensified operations aimed at tracking down other suspected gang members and alleged sponsors who remain at large.

The police described the development as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb cult-related violence and restore security in affected communities.
Police dismiss officers Anthony Obodo case has been confirmed as the Rivers State Police Command dismissed three of its officers linked to the killing of a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while parading the three officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to the command, the officers were linked to the incident that occurred last Thursday along Ada George in Port Harcourt, where Obodo was shot dead.
A member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting, has been declared a deserter.
CP Adepoju stated that the three arrested officers were subjected to an orderly room trial. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of their culpability, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court.
“I am here to provide updates on some serious incidents recently recorded in the state, including the investigation into the death of one Anthony A. Obodo… Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the culpability of the officers involved… the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
The commissioner noted that he understood the concerns of Obodo’s family and members of the public, adding that the Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.
Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt who was reportedly awaiting his NYSC call-up letter, was shot during a police pursuit.
