Anambra State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the November 2025 murder of three Cameroonian nationals, whose bodies were later recovered from a river in Anambra West Local Government Area.

Spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspects were apprehended at a shrine in Nando, Anambra East LGA, following the confessions of two previously arrested suspects.

“The suspects, all males, include the alleged Chief Priest of a shrine, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as ‘Ugoebenajah,’ aged 27 years, alongside Nwabunne Bright (27), Chinecherem Chiama (21), and Michael Ekwunife (38),” Ikenga said.

Police recovered two pump-action guns, one locally made Beretta pistol, one machete, assorted charms, and live ammunition from the shrine.

Operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, engaged armed men who attempted to resist arrest, leading to a brief gun duel in which one suspect sustained a thigh injury and was hospitalised.

“The Command operatives responded professionally. While the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, escaped with other gang members, we continue to pursue the fleeing members of the criminal gang,” Ikenga stated.

The four arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and police have urged members of the public to provide information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The arrests follow the earlier apprehension of two suspects, Nonso Augustine Akpeh, 37, and Kingsley Akpeh, 44, who had assisted police with information leading to the recovery of the victims’ decomposing bodies.
