The affirmation exercises were held on Thursday in Gusau, Zamfara State, and Katsina State respectively, under the supervision of officials from the APC national headquarters and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In Zamfara, the exercise took place at Madawaki Ward in Gusau Local Government Area, where thousands of APC delegates participated in a voice vote to affirm Governor Dauda Lawal as the party’s sole aspirant.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the governorship consensus exercise, Baba Galadima-Uba, announced Lawal’s affirmation after the voting process, stating that it complied with provisions of the Electoral Act and APC guidelines.

He said the process reflected the will of party members who gathered in large numbers, many of whom displayed their membership cards during the exercise.

Similarly, in Katsina State, 160 delegates unanimously affirmed Governor Dikko Radda as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Chairman of the Katsina Electoral Committee, Dr Yakubu Maccido, confirmed the outcome, noting that the consensus process followed due electoral procedures and party regulations.

The APC National Vice Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Datti Garba, commended party members for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process across both states.

Former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, urged party stakeholders whose ambitions were not realised to support the consensus candidates and work towards party unity ahead of the general elections.

Masari, who chairs the party’s reconciliation committee, also called on Governor Radda to carry all stakeholders along in the administration of party affairs.

He further encouraged grassroots mobilisation to secure victory for the APC at all levels in 2027, including the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Radda expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work for the continued success of the party.
