The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who said the decision followed due consultation, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council.

According to the government, the action was taken in line with the Osun State Chiefs Law, as amended, alongside other legal frameworks governing traditional institutions in the state.

The statement noted that Oba Oloyede had been convicted in the United States over offences linked to COVID-19 fraud and is currently serving a prison sentence.

“The decision was reached after due consultation, legal consideration and approval by the State Executive Council,” the statement read.

The state government also confirmed the withdrawal of all instruments of office previously issued to the monarch, including the staff of office, effectively terminating his reign.

It further declared the stool of the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu vacant, pending the commencement of succession processes in accordance with customary and legal provisions.

“The government will, in due course, outline the process for succession in line with established customary and legal procedures,” Commissioner Kolapo Alimi stated.

Security agencies have been directed to maintain peace and order in Ipetumodu, while residents, kingmakers, and stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding.
