The decision, reflected on FIFA’s official platform for international player transfers, confirms the eligibility of the 24-year-old Wrexham goalkeeper, who was born in England to Nigerian parents and had previously represented England at youth level.

Okonkwo Super Eagles clearance marks a pivotal moment for both the player and Nigeria’s national team setup.

Okonkwo, a former Arsenal Football Club shot stopper, is now expected to be considered for selection as Nigeria continues to strengthen its squad depth in key positions.

His switch of allegiance adds a new dimension to the goalkeeping options available to the Super Eagles.

The clearance comes at a time when Nigeria is preparing for a series of international friendlies aimed at fine tuning the squad ahead of competitive fixtures.

Okonkwo could be handed an opportunity to make his debut in upcoming matches against India national football team and Jamaica national football team scheduled for May.

Additional fixtures are also planned for June against Poland national football team and Portugal national football team, providing further opportunities for squad assessment and integration of new players into the system.

The inclusion of Okonkwo is widely seen as a positive and timely reinforcement for the Super Eagles, as the coaching staff evaluates personnel ahead of future competitions.

His experience in English football, combined with his eligibility switch, is expected to bring added competition and depth to the squad.
