Atiku Abubakar insecurity criticism Tinubu intensifies as ex-VP condemns government response to killings, kidnappings and rising insecurity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, alleging that the administration has relied on repeated condemnations rather than decisive action in response to ongoing attacks.

Atiku’s Attack on Tinubu over security situation remarks came in reaction to recent killings and abductions reported in parts of Oyo and Katsina states, where several people, including schoolchildren and teachers, were affected.

In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the recurring incidents as evidence of what he called a failure of leadership at the highest level.

He accused the federal government of responding to each tragedy with what he termed a predictable pattern of statements that no longer carry meaningful impact.

“At a time when armed criminals are abducting schoolchildren, killing innocent citizens and turning communities into graveyards, the President’s response remains the same tired ritual,” he said.

Atiku further argued that Nigerians were becoming desensitised to official responses following repeated incidents of violence across the country.

He added that leadership requires more than statements issued after attacks, warning that continued loss of lives undermines public confidence in governance.

The former vice president also expressed concern that criminal groups were operating with increasing boldness, suggesting that they no longer fear the state’s response.

He warned that any attempt to suppress information or images of violent incidents would be damaging to democratic accountability.

Atiku called for urgent steps to secure the release of abducted victims and urged a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture to address the rising wave of violence.
