Auwalu Isah Manzo PDP candidate for Garki/Babura by-election confirmed after screening. INEC sets election for 16 August 2025 in Jigawa State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed the successful screening of Auwalu Isah Manzo as its candidate for the Garki/Babura House of Representatives by-election in Jigawa State.

The by-election, scheduled by INEC for 16 August 2025, follows the death of Isa Dogon Yaro on 10 May 2024 at the age of 46.

Speaking after the screening exercise, Precious Ben, Secretary of the PDP screening committee from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, said the process was completed successfully.

“We have successfully screened the candidate. He presented all the documents required. Therefore, he meets all the necessary criteria of the party and INEC,” she said.

Ben added, “Looking at his vast experience and popularity, I am sure he is the best candidate for the party and can compete and defeat any candidate from other political parties.”

Auwalu Manzo, a retired civil servant, told journalists that he decided to enter the race to bring positive change to his constituency.

“I believe my constituents will vote for me in the coming by-election,” he stated confidently.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have also submitted candidates for the same seat.

Internet personality, Isaac Fayose has taken a swipe at the former governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for allegedly diverting about ₦1.3 trillion belonging to the Delta State Government.

In a video seen by NATIONAL WAVES, Isaac who is the younger brother of the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, criticised Okowa for alleged fraud.

He said “Nobody probes Governors, even Okowa who they say took N1.something trillions, his sins are forgiven. He is now about going back to the Senate. You can see how we have legalise corruption in our country, while the citizens are hungry, ebi pawaa, ko sonoje meaning no food, iya jenwa meaning we are suffering. You see the sharing envelopes, envelopes and rice during elections.

It would be recalled that on October 15, 2024, NATIONAL WAVES published a story of how the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and quizzed Okowa for a week over alleged fraud.

Okowa’s arrest was confirmed by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale who stated that Okowa was investigated and detained over the alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion.

The N1.3 trillion reportedly represents the 13% derivation fund from the federation account between 2015 and 2023.
