The by-election, scheduled by INEC for 16 August 2025, follows the death of Isa Dogon Yaro on 10 May 2024 at the age of 46.

Speaking after the screening exercise, Precious Ben, Secretary of the PDP screening committee from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, said the process was completed successfully.

“We have successfully screened the candidate. He presented all the documents required. Therefore, he meets all the necessary criteria of the party and INEC,” she said.

Ben added, “Looking at his vast experience and popularity, I am sure he is the best candidate for the party and can compete and defeat any candidate from other political parties.”

Auwalu Manzo, a retired civil servant, told journalists that he decided to enter the race to bring positive change to his constituency.

“I believe my constituents will vote for me in the coming by-election,” he stated confidently.
