Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed denies leaving PDP for APC, Turaki-led party assures stakeholders amid ongoing reconciliation talks

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports that Bauchi State Governor and chairman of the party’s governors’ forum, Bala Mohammed, is planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports emerged on Sunday suggesting that Mohammed was finalising plans to leave the PDP, which has already lost ten governors to the APC within the past year, including Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.

The Turaki-led PDP, whose leadership was reinstated following the Appeal Court’s nullification of last year’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, confirmed that Mohammed remains in the party.

National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong said the governor has consistently affirmed his loyalty to the PDP in conversations with party officials and their national chairman.

“Governor Bala Mohammed has repeatedly stated that he is comfortable in the party.

We do not know where these rumours are coming from,” Ememobong said.

On reconciliation within the party following internal disputes, Ememobong confirmed that discussions are ongoing among stakeholders.

He emphasised that the reconciliation committee’s work remains an internal matter, conducted according to agreed strategies, and should not be publicly escalated.

The development comes as PDP continues efforts to stabilise its leadership and reconcile internal factions after the Appeal Court verdict, which prompted dialogue between the Turaki-led national leadership and the National Caretaker Committee backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
