Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Flick said young players must dedicate themselves entirely to the club’s values, amid concerns about departures from the academy.

“If you want to play for Barca, then do it 100% with your whole heart,” Flick said. “This is what I want to say to everyone who is now with us, or in the future with us — this must be 100%.”

His comments come after 18-year-old midfielder Dro Fernandez joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for €8.2m (£7.1m), exceeding his €6m (£5.2m) release clause.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta said the transfer was unexpected, noting the club had agreed on a different arrangement for the player’s 18th birthday.

“These colours, you have to live for them. This is what I want to see. All the others I don’t want,” Flick added.

The coach acknowledged that players at 18 are capable of making their own decisions, though their choices may not always align with the club’s expectations.

“Sometimes you do not agree with what they are doing, but they are 18, they are old enough to make the decisions. They have people around them,” he said.

Flick’s statement reinforces Barcelona’s emphasis on loyalty and dedication, particularly as the club seeks to retain young talent in a competitive European football landscape.
