A retired soldier was killed in a suspected bandit attack in Anem Village, Benue State, as police launch investigation to track the attackers

A retired army officer, Sgt. Chiayongo Jem’m, was shot dead on Sunday in a suspected bandit attack in Anem Village, Ikyurav-Ya, Kwande Local Government Area, security sources confirmed.

The attack occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m., according to a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama. Jem’m was reportedly targeted by unknown gunmen.

His body was recovered by family members and taken to an unidentified mortuary in Ikyogen.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in Jato-Aka mobilised a joint patrol team to the area to track the attackers.

Officers are combing nearby bushes, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the investigation.

Authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide information that could aid in apprehending the suspects.
