Bodies of two kidnapped Cameroonian women recovered in Omambala River, Anambra; police continue search for third victim and suspects
Officials said the Bodies of Two Kidnapped Cameroonian women, identified as Mrs. Bognou Alice and her niece Miss Sandra, were recovered in the Omambala River, Anambra West Local Government Area.
The discovery followed an intensive search conducted on Saturday by the Anambra Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with professional divers and local volunteers.
Police spokesperson SP Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed that both bodies were positively identified by the victims’ family. The recovered remains have been deposited in a mortuary for further examination and investigative procedures.
Two suspects, Nonso Augustine Akpeh and Kingsley Akpeh, have been arrested and are providing vital information to assist the ongoing investigation. Police said efforts are ongoing to locate a third suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, who remains at large.
Ikenga noted that the Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, extended condolences to the bereaved families and directed intensified operational activities to ensure the remaining victim is found and suspects are apprehended.
The statement also highlighted the state’s security context, noting that kidnapping incidents in eastern Nigeria, including Anambra, are sometimes attributed to outlawed groups, though claims are often disputed.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and delivering justice.
