CAF officials to inspect Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu in Ogun State for the 2026 African Schools Football Championship, reviewing stadiums, training facilities, and accommodations
Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are scheduled to visit Nigeria on Monday for a two-day inspection of proposed venues for the final phase of the 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The evaluation, confirmed by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Director of Media and Communications Ademola Olajire, will take place in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu in Ogun State on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The CAF delegation will assess key infrastructure, including competition venues, training facilities, nearby hospitals, and hotel accommodations.
Venues under review include Remo Stars Stadium and training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, alongside FC Ebedei Stadium and supporting facilities in Sagamu.
Launched four years ago, the CAF African Schools Football Championship is an annual Under-15 tournament designed to promote youth football development alongside education.
The competition features boys’ and girls’ categories and is backed by a $10 million investment from the Dr Patrice Motsepe Foundation. Winners receive up to $300,000 for infrastructure development.
The tournament also partners with organisations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote health education and welfare among young athletes.
CAF officials expected to participate in the inspection include Omar Amr (Safeguarding), Fatima Elmissaoui (African Schools Football Championship Officer), Herve Dassoundo (Marketing and Branding), Mahmoud Amer (Travel and Logistics), Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety and Security), Hend Thabet (Travel and Accommodation), Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition), and Philippe Tchere (Executive Director, WAFU B).
The inspection marks a key step in Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 finals, with the evaluation outcomes set to influence CAF’s final decision.
