Chelsea McFarlane season belief remains strong as interim boss says Blues can turn around poor form after Rosenior’s dismissal

Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane has expressed confidence that the club can still rescue their season despite a damaging run of results that led to the dismissal of former head coach Liam Rosenior.

McFarlane addressed the media on Friday for the first time since taking charge, following Rosenior’s departure after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton which extended Chelsea’s winless streak in the Premier League.

The Blues have lost five consecutive league matches without scoring, a slump that has intensified pressure on the squad ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United on Sunday.

Despite the poor form, McFarlane insisted there remains confidence within the camp that performances can improve quickly.

“I know it’s been tough recently, but we’ve had some good games this year,” he said. “There’s a lot of talent. Some of those players are among the best in the world in their positions. There’s still belief within us.”

The interim boss, who previously stepped in after Enzo Maresca’s departure earlier in the season, declined to comment on speculation regarding possible unrest within the squad, stating that internal matters would remain private.

Chelsea’s struggles have raised questions about consistency and cohesion, with reports suggesting tension between management and players during the turbulent run.

McFarlane, however, maintained a calm tone and stressed the importance of unity as the club approaches a decisive stage of the season.

He also confirmed that young winger Estevão will miss the remainder of the campaign due to injury, adding to Chelsea’s selection concerns.

The club now turns its attention to the FA Cup, where a strong performance could provide a much-needed boost to morale and restore some confidence among supporters.
