Christantus Uche Crystal Palace: Nigerian midfielder scores and assists as Palace beat Shelbourne 3-0 in Europa Conference League

Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche announced his arrival for Crystal Palace with a commanding performance as the Eagles dismantled Shelbourne 3-0 in their Europa Conference League clash at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday.

Uche, who joined Palace on loan from Getafe during the last transfer window, scored his first goal for the club in the 11th minute after a precise through ball from Edward Nketiah.

He later assisted Nketiah for the second goal in the 25th minute, showcasing a seamless combination of composure and vision in midfield.

The third goal came from Yéremi Pino, following a well-timed pass from Daichi Kamada.

Before Thursday, Uche had mostly been on the bench, making limited appearances in Palace’s Europa Conference League fixtures.

However, his introduction into the starting XI marked a dramatic turnaround, earning praise from fans and teammates alike.

His performance was described as “beast mode,” as he peppered Shelbourne’s defence with six shots, narrowly missing a second goal due to a shot off the woodwork.

Since joining Palace, there were rumours of an early return to Spain, but his recent form, including a strong showing in last weekend’s 2-1 league victory over Fulham, appears to have secured his place in London until the summer.

Uche’s rise is a timely boost for Nigeria, with the midfielder unavailable for the 2025 AFCON, ensuring he remains match-fit for European fixtures.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian stars across Europe, including Francis Uzoho, Philip Otele, and Kelechi Iheanacho, have also been making headlines in domestic and continental competitions.

Crystal Palace’s win consolidated their position in the Europa Conference League group, with Uche emerging as a pivotal figure in their campaign.

The performance has heightened expectations that he will continue to influence both club and potentially international football in the coming seasons.
