The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has urged the Nigerian Government to block all leakages that enable corruption, highlighting systemic issues in both the legislature and judiciary.

Auwal Rafsanjani, Executive Director of CISLAC, made the appeal on Arise Television on Wednesday while commenting on Nigeria’s performance in the 2025 Corruption Perception Index, CPI, released by Transparency International.

The country was ranked 142nd out of 182 nations.

Rafsanjani cited the Auditor-General’s recent reports, which allege that members of the National Assembly have been required to pay bribes before motions can be presented.

He also pointed to judicial corruption, corroborated by findings from the Nigerian Bar Association, where access to justice is increasingly undermined by bribery.

“If these real-time corrupt practices persist, there is no way the Corruption Perception Index will improve,” Rafsanjani said.

“Transparency International’s report is a wake-up call to identify gaps and block those leakages.”

The CISLAC chief warned that corruption continues to erode public trust and access to justice, emphasising that a coordinated effort by the government is required to address institutional vulnerabilities.
