Nigeria Customs intercepts 1,433 live cartridges and five Dane guns in Ogun, hands over seized arms to police amid heightened surveillance efforts

The interception, described as a significant security breakthrough, was announced by Area Comptroller Mr Godwin Otunla during a formal handover of the seized arms to the Nigeria Police Force at Idiroko.

In adherence to national security protocol and inter-agency cooperation, the NCS transferred the recovered ammunition and weapons to the Ogun State Police Command for further investigation.

Otunla reaffirmed the command’s commitment to national security, citing strengthened intelligence operations and collaborative efforts with sister agencies as key factors behind the success.

“Our officers have intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence and strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, which led to this remarkable achievement,” Otunla stated.

The seizure underscores growing concerns about the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, especially in border areas such as Idiroko. The Customs’ proactive operations are seen as critical to preventing armed violence and maintaining economic and civil stability in the region.

The recovered items are expected to be examined by police authorities to trace their origins and determine any possible connections to criminal activity.
