Dalung raises alarm ahead of Tinubu, 2027 warning highlights claims of opposition mobilisation and fears of political tension ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, on Wednesday in Abuja declared that Nigeria’s opposition is preparing for what he described as a fierce political confrontation ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be “removed” through a democratic struggle.
Dalung issues warning over Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, where the former minister said opposition forces under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and allied platforms are bracing for intensified political pressure as the next election cycle approaches.
Dalung said those seeking political change must be ready for resistance, describing himself and others within the movement as “revolutionary” actors committed to challenging the ruling establishment.
He alleged that the difficulties facing the ADC, including internal disputes and legal challenges, were not coincidental but part of a calculated effort to weaken the opposition ahead of the polls.
According to him, recent developments point to what he termed coordinated attempts to destabilise rival political structures, claims which he linked to comments allegedly made by government figures, despite official denials from the presidency.
Dalung further warned that the 2027 election period could witness heightened political tension, suggesting that opposition figures were already preparing for possible state pressure, including detention.
He also criticised the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that trust in the electoral body had diminished among opposition groups.
Despite the concerns, Dalung maintained that opposition coalitions were still working towards a unified presidential front, aimed at mounting a serious challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said ongoing political engagements, including recent coalition discussions in Ibadan, reflected efforts to consolidate support, even as internal disagreements over zoning and leadership continue to test unity.
Dalung insisted that the Nigerian electorate is becoming more politically aware and determined to protect democratic integrity, expressing confidence that 2027 will be fiercely contested.
