Davido expresses support for Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the governorship election as political tensions rise among major contenders
Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared his support for his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The music star shared photos of himself embracing the governor on his verified X account on Thursday, expressing confidence in Adeleke’s chances in the upcoming poll.
“We got this #aadeleke_01 God got us,” Davido wrote.
The singer’s message comes amid heightened political activities and exchanges between supporters of major political parties contesting for the Osun governorship seat.
Davido had earlier appealed to residents of the state to avoid violence and intimidation, urging political stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election that allows voters to choose their preferred candidate.
His public support for Adeleke has attracted reactions from opposition figures, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who mocked Adeleke’s political future and advised Davido to prepare his uncle for a career in entertainment after leaving office.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo also criticised Adeleke’s administration, urging voters to support the All Progressives Congress during the August 15 election.
Despite the criticism, Adeleke maintained that the election represents more than a contest for power, saying it is an opportunity for voters to decide the direction of the state.
The election comes amid ongoing political tensions, including a dispute between the Osun State Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the restriction placed on the state’s statutory allocation account.
