A fire broke out at De Bently Hotel (De Bently Hotel) in Utako, Abuja, on Monday, March 9, 2026, around 8:28 p.m., engulfing a four-storey commercial building covering approximately 500 square metres.
Firefighters from Wuse Fire Station, under the supervision of Federal Fire Service Controller General Olumode Adeyemi, arrived within 10 minutes and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been triggered by a gas explosion, though investigations are ongoing. The estimated property value at the hotel is ₦1 billion, of which ₦650 million was saved, while ₦350 million was affected by the fire.
No casualties or injuries were reported. Police patrol teams assisted in ensuring safety during firefighting operations.
The Federal Fire Service urged the public, particularly businesses and hotel operators, to adhere strictly to fire safety regulations, including proper handling of gas cylinders and combustible materials.
