Delta Police arrest four suspected fraudsters in Asaba with fake $1,600 US dollar notes and recover counterfeit currency during intelligence-led operation
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected fraudsters in connection with possession of counterfeit United States dollar notes amounting to $1,600 in a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Asaba.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, saying the suspects were tracked following credible intelligence on their alleged fraudulent activities within the state.
According to the statement, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit placed the suspects under surveillance after reports emerged that a five-man syndicate was using fake US dollar bills to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road in Asaba.
Edafe stated that preliminary investigation showed the suspects operated from a hideout in the city, which prompted a follow-up raid by security operatives.
During the search of the premises, police reportedly recovered 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes as well as military camouflage items allegedly concealed within the location.
The suspects are said to have confessed during interrogation, while investigations continue to determine the full extent of their operations and possible accomplices.
In a related operation in Delta State, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit also arrested two women in Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area over alleged involvement in drug distribution.
The suspects were found with various suspected illicit substances, including Cannabis, Colorado, GH Gold, and Canadian Loud, which were recovered by the police.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved in the operations, describing their efforts as professional and intelligence-driven.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety across the state.
Police dismiss officers Anthony Obodo case has been confirmed as the Rivers State Police Command dismissed three of its officers linked to the killing of a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while parading the three officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to the command, the officers were linked to the incident that occurred last Thursday along Ada George in Port Harcourt, where Obodo was shot dead.
A member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting, has been declared a deserter.
CP Adepoju stated that the three arrested officers were subjected to an orderly room trial. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of their culpability, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court.
“I am here to provide updates on some serious incidents recently recorded in the state, including the investigation into the death of one Anthony A. Obodo… Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the culpability of the officers involved… the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.
The commissioner noted that he understood the concerns of Obodo’s family and members of the public, adding that the Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.
Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt who was reportedly awaiting his NYSC call-up letter, was shot during a police pursuit.
