Man arrested in Edo over alleged abuse of minors as operatives hand suspect to police for investigation
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested Michael Ogungbemi over allegations of sexually abusing two underage girls in Ogbegun community, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off and preliminary investigation into claims involving his stepdaughter and her 13-year-old school friend, both Junior Secondary School students.
According to officials, the case came to light after the second victim fell ill at school, prompting concern from teachers and her parents.
Medical checks later indicated health complications consistent with abuse, leading to further inquiries.
Authorities said the minor subsequently disclosed the alleged incidents, which also implicated the suspect’s stepdaughter.
The matter was reported to the Edo State Security Corps, triggering swift action.
The Deputy Commander of the Corps, Richard Balogu, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Officials added that both minors have been placed under care, while relevant authorities continue to handle the case in line with legal procedures.
The Edo State Security Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged the public to report suspected cases promptly.
