Edo Approves Closed Training Camp Ahead of Niger Delta Games

Edo State launches a two-week closed training camp for selected under-20 athletes ahead of the Niger Delta Games in Benin City, starting February 20.

The Edo State Government has approved a two-week closed training camp for selected athletes and coaches in preparation for the second edition of the Niger Delta Games, scheduled from February 20 to 27, 2026, in Benin City.

Bright Idahosa, Secretary of the Edo State Liaison Committee for the Games, stated that the camp aims to intensify training and fine-tune athletes’ readiness for the regional sports festival.

Only the top athletes in the approved under-20 age bracket will represent Edo State.

Trials to select athletes are ongoing across all 18 local government areas of the state and cover 17 sports associations participating in the Games.

The Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, directed that all trials be concluded by Friday to ensure a credible selection process.

The Niger Delta Games, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and organised by Dunamis-Icon Limited, will feature athletes from the nine states of the Niger Delta region.
