El-Rufai’s appearance followed an earlier confirmation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that he would be arraigned before the court on the scheduled date.

The El-Rufai money laundering trial Kaduna court proceedings involve multiple allegations, including conversion and possession of public property, abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

Court filings reportedly indicate that the case was instituted under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.

Ahead of the hearing, security was significantly tightened around the Federal High Court premises, with personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Mobile Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps deployed across key locations.

The court environment also experienced restricted vehicular movement, causing traffic congestion in surrounding areas from early morning hours.

The ICPC had earlier stated that the arraignment would proceed with formal reading of charges and the defendant’s plea, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched legal battle involving the former governor.
