Okorocha stated this in Abuja on Monday in reference to a conversation he had about the EndSARS protest.

Speaking during the declaration of his presidential ambition, Okorocha said: “There is nothing like police brutality. There are only youths brutalizing youths.”

He added that police brutality is a situation of youths brutalizing youths because the policeman accused of brutality is also a young person and his actions are out of frustration.

Recall that Nigerian youths staged a protest in October 2020 over police brutality in Nigeria. The protest tagged EndSARS shut down Nigeria for weeks as youths called for the reform of the Nigeria Police Force, (NPF).

The rally began as a protest against police brutality by the special police unit (SARS), but turned into protests against bad governance in the largest mass demonstrations in modern Nigerian history. They came to a halt on October 20, 2020, when security forces fired on thousands of peaceful protesters gathered at the Lekki toll plaza in Lagos.

While declaring his intention for 2023 presidential race, Rochas Okorocha futher said he would make free education compulsory, especially from primary to secondary schools.

Among other politicians who have declared interest to run for the presidency in 2023 from the southeast, Okorocha is believed to have a close affinity with people from all geo-political zones of the country through his philanthropic gestures.

With his official declaration on Monday, January 31, 2022 he has joined the likes of Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, and businessman, Sam Ohuabunwa as leaders from the South East that are so far gunning for the presidency in 2023.
