Police operatives reportedly recovered an imitation revolver loaded with eight toy bullets during the arrest, which occurred around 11:30pm while Mr Oshim allegedly attempted to rob members of the public.

“The arrest followed a prompt response to a distress call by operatives attached to the Independence Layout Police Division,” SP Ndukwe said. “At the scene, operatives caught the suspect robbing a young man and recovered a revolver imitation pistol loaded with eight toy bullets.”

Mr Oshim remains in police custody and will be arraigned after the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa commended the officers’ prompt response and urged personnel to sustain efforts to make Enugu uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals. He also encouraged residents to support policing through timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

The arrest follows a string of recent operations by the Enugu Police Command targeting armed robbery and cult-related crimes.

Last week, the Anti-Cultism Unit apprehended six suspected cult members involved in forced initiation into the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, recovering firearms, cutlasses, and alcoholic drinks.

Between November 22 and December 1, 2025, the command also arrested five suspects—including Ikechukwu Patrick, Odoh David, Izuchukwu Ogbodo, Charles Ekenechukwu Egwuatu, and Justina Dike—linked to armed robbery and “one-chance” criminal activities through coordinated intelligence-led operations.

SP Ndukwe said these arrests reflect the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and disrupting organised criminal activity across Enugu State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while parading the three officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.

According to the command, the officers were linked to the incident that occurred last Thursday along Ada George in Port Harcourt, where Obodo was shot dead.

A member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting, has been declared a deserter.

CP Adepoju stated that the three arrested officers were subjected to an orderly room trial. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of their culpability, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court.

“I am here to provide updates on some serious incidents recently recorded in the state, including the investigation into the death of one Anthony A. Obodo… Following the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the culpability of the officers involved… the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.

The commissioner noted that he understood the concerns of Obodo’s family and members of the public, adding that the Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.

Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt who was reportedly awaiting his NYSC call-up letter, was shot during a police pursuit.
