Former Bayelsa governorship candidate Udengs Eradiri condemns frequent cult killings, lamenting government inaction and urging youth empowerment

Former Bayelsa State governorship candidate, Udengs Eradiri, has strongly denounced the escalating incidents of cult-related killings in the state, particularly in Yenagoa, and called on the government and security agencies to take decisive action.

Udengs Eradiri expressed his deep sorrow over the resurgence of cult violence, highlighting the vulnerability of youths and the perceived lack of responsiveness from security agencies.

He urged state security operatives to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, emphasizing that these killings are tarnishing the image of Bayelsa State.

Addressing the state government, Eradiri stressed the urgent need for genuine youth empowerment initiatives beyond mere appointments.

He proposed the creation of “quick-win direct labor projects” on a monthly basis, along with genuine agro support schemes and contract supplies related to road construction, to engage the youth productively and divert their attention from criminal activities.

Eradiri stated, “I am saddened by the resurgence of cult-related killings in my dear Bayelsa State especially Yenagoa, the state capital. Cultists are running amok hacking down their perceived enemies while security agencies and the government stand in akimbo helpless.

It is high time we stopped this unnecessary wastage of human lives. Security agencies must rise up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and the government must embrace genuine youth empowerment and development beyond handing down meaningless appointments to youths.”

He further emphasized that “Government should keep the youths busy with quick-win direct labor projects every month… This killings must stop because it is giving our state a bad image. Enough is enough.”

Eradiri’s passionate appeal underscores the growing concern over insecurity in Bayelsa State and the urgent need for a multi-faceted approach involving robust security measures and meaningful youth engagement.
