False Claims Against Aiyedatiwa dismissed by Ondo Attorney General, who says APC primaries complied with due process and the law
Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAN, has dismissed allegations that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa used state machinery to influence the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, describing the claims as false, malicious and unsupported by evidence.
Dr Ajulo made the declaration in a statement issued in Akure on Thursday, insisting that the accusations were driven by frustrated political ambitions rather than verifiable facts.
The Attorney General said his constitutional responsibility requires him to defend the government, its institutions and the rule of law against unfounded attacks while ensuring that government actions remain rooted in justice, fairness and equity.
Addressing the allegations, Dr Ajulo described the campaign against Governor Aiyedatiwa as deeply disturbing and warned that spreading falsehoods could attract serious legal consequences.
According to him, those making the allegations have failed to provide any credible evidence despite the widespread availability of digital technology and social media platforms capable of documenting such claims.
Dr Ajulo argued that the attacks reflected transferred aggression from individuals dissatisfied with the outcome of internal political processes.
He stated that the government would deploy all lawful measures available to address any infractions and protect its reputation against what he termed deliberate misinformation.
As part of his defence of the governor, Dr Ajulo highlighted Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commanding electoral performance in the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
The Attorney General noted that the governor secured a record 366,781 votes, defeated his closest rival by 117,845 votes and won across all 18 local government areas of the state.
The Attorney General also defended the APC candidate selection process, saying the emergence of preferred candidates followed extensive consultations, negotiations and stakeholder engagements throughout Ondo State.
Dr Ajulo explained that party leaders from all 18 local government areas participated in the process and ratified the outcome through consensus arrangements permitted under the APC Constitution and Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022.
The process, he said, was designed to strengthen party unity and avoid the divisions often associated with contentious primary elections.
While responding to the False Claims Against Aiyedatiwa, Dr Ajulo urged aggrieved aspirants to utilise the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms instead of pursuing media campaigns against the governor and the state government.
The Attorney General called on APC members and residents of Ondo State to remain united and focused on governance while disregarding what he described as baseless propaganda.
Dr Ajulo reaffirmed his support for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration and maintained that the law would be applied where necessary against individuals found to be deliberately spreading false information.
