FCT High Court adjourns alleged illegal ejection case involving Asabe Waziri and others to April 24, 2026
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, experienced mild drama on Tuesday as a case involving alleged illegal eviction was adjourned to April 24, 2026.
The complainant, Asabe Waziri, had accused the defendants – human rights lawyer Victor Giwa, Cecil Osakwe, and Edith Erhunmuuse of illegally ejecting her from a property in Maitama.
During proceedings, a lawyer, Abubakar Mohammed, who was initially briefed only to observe, spoke up, prompting Giwa to assert that Mohammed had no right to address the court.
Justice Samira Bature agreed, noting that Mohammed’s comments would not be recorded.
The adjournment was primarily due to the absence of the third defendant, Erhunmuuse, who could not attend because of ill health.
Justice Bature emphasized that the case had suffered multiple delays and warned that no further adjournments would be tolerated.
She directed that pending applications challenging the court’s jurisdiction be addressed in the presence of the prosecution and instructed that all parties ensure attendance on the next adjourned date.
The case has already faced previous delays, including postponements to allow the third defendant to secure legal representation.
