FG denies 40 percent peculiar allowance civil servants claim, saying no such approval was issued and clarifying that only NSIWC can communicate salary circulars
The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that a 40 per cent peculiar allowance had been approved for federal civil servants.
FG refutes report on 40% peculiar allowance for civil servants following widespread media reports suggesting an increase in workers’ welfare package.
The clarification comes after the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation recently announced a series of welfare improvements for civil servants, including allowances and entitlements such as Duty Tour Allowance, estacode, book allowance, and a review of certain salary-related benefits.
However, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Eno Olotu, said no approval or official communication was ever made regarding a 40 per cent peculiar allowance.
She explained that the office did not issue or transmit any such directive to the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council or any labour union.
According to her, the responsibility for issuing official salary circulars lies solely with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).
She further clarified that the recent meeting convened by the Head of the Civil Service was only an intervention and dialogue session aimed at promoting understanding between organised labour and relevant government agencies.
The government urged the public to disregard misleading reports and rely only on official communication channels for accurate information on workers’ welfare matters.
