Ekiti livestock vaccines supplied by the FG aim to curb animal diseases, boost productivity and strengthen food security across the state
The Federal Government of Nigeria has supplied the Ekiti State Government with 80,500 doses of livestock vaccines to strengthen the prevention and control of transboundary animal diseases and improve animal health outcomes across the state.
The vaccines were delivered through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support programme, according to officials.
The consignment includes 50,000 doses of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia vaccine, 30,000 doses of Newcastle Disease vaccine and 500 doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccine.
Receiving the vaccines on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, said the intervention formed part of the state’s strategic drive to reinforce animal health systems and enhance livestock productivity.
Mr Boluwade said effective disease surveillance and control were critical to achieving sustainable food security and improving public health outcomes.
He assured livestock farmers and industry stakeholders that the vaccines would be deployed through coordinated vaccination campaigns to ensure broad coverage across livestock clusters and farming communities.
The State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support programme, Mr Olayinka Adedipe, said the vaccine supply aligned with ongoing efforts to build resilience against cross-border animal diseases.
Mr Adedipe said the programme would work closely with veterinary officers to ensure proper cold-chain management, safe handling and effective administration of the vaccines.
Also speaking, the Director of Veterinary Services in Ekiti State, Dr Adedamola Fasoranti, stressed the importance of timely vaccination in preventing disease outbreaks among livestock.
Dr Fasoranti said prompt immunisation would significantly reduce livestock mortality while improving overall productivity.
The National Project Coordinator of the programme, Dr Abubakar Sanusi, commended the Ekiti State Government for its collaboration and readiness to implement the vaccination exercise effectively.
Dr Sanusi was represented at the event by the Legal Adviser of the programme, Mr Ken Agim.
