APC Vice Chairman Mustapha Salihu dismisses Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi as 2027 threats, calling PDP “technically non-existent
The Goodluck Jonathan Peter Obi 2027 chances have been dismissed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, who described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “technically non-existent.”
Speaking on Arise News on Sunday, Salihu argued that neither former President Jonathan nor ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Obi possessed the political structure or capacity to challenge the APC in the next general election.
“Jonathan is a gentleman and a patriotic Nigerian, but when it comes to performance, the difference between his six years and President Tinubu’s two years is clear,” Salihu said, adding that Tinubu had taken “courageous decisions” to stabilise security and economic sectors.
He claimed that those pushing for Jonathan’s return to the PDP were motivated by personal gain rather than national interest. “Some of them were part of his government and want to rule the country by proxy. Nigerians will not subscribe to that,” he stated.
Turning to Obi, Salihu said the former Anambra governor had squandered his post-2023 momentum. “Obi had a near revolution in 2023 with massive youth support, but after losing, he abandoned his governorship candidates.
If he had supported them, he could have had at least seven governors today as a launchpad,” he argued, adding that Obi now “lacks the structure” to win a presidential election in Nigeria.
Salihu insisted the APC remains the most formidable political force in the country. “We are not panicking or shaking.
We have the structure, leadership ability, achievements, and organisational capacity to prosecute an election any day, any time. No party in Nigeria today can match the APC,” he declared.
