GUO driver killed Lagos-Benin highway attack sparks concern as transport firm urges stronger security after deadly armed robbery incident
GUO Transport Company has confirmed the killing of one of its drivers following an armed robbery attack along the Lagos-Benin highway, in what has renewed urgent concerns over insecurity on the busy intercity transport route.
GUO driver killed Lagos-Benin highway attack occurred when a Toyota Hiace bus, reportedly dispatched empty from Lagos en route to Onitsha, was ambushed by armed robbers along the Okada-Benin stretch of the highway.
In a statement issued by its management, GUO Transport described the incident as a deeply painful loss, confirming that the attack led to the death of the driver.
“It is with profound sadness that GUO Transport Co. confirms a tragic incident involving one of our vehicles,” the company stated.
“We regret to confirm that the incident resulted in the loss of our driver. This is a deeply painful loss to the entire GUO family.”
The transport company extended condolences to the bereaved family, noting that its immediate priority is to support them through the period of grief.
The firm also called on security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts to address the recurring security challenges along the Lagos-Benin highway, a key route connecting Nigeria’s South-West and South-East regions.
“We respectfully urge intensified action to address the persistent security challenges on this corridor,” the company added.
GUO Transport further appreciated public sympathy and requested privacy for the family of the deceased.
The Lagos-Benin highway has for years been associated with reports of armed robbery attacks and other criminal activities, raising ongoing concern among commuters, transport operators and logistics companies that depend on the route for intercity movement.
