ZITDA Deploys Internet at Gusau Airport Ahead of October 1 Flights

Gusau International Airport internet deployment begins ahead of October 1 commercial operations, with free connectivity planned for passengers and staff

The Zamfara State Information Technology Development Agency, ZITDA, has begun deploying reliable internet connectivity at Gusau International Airport in preparation for the commencement of commercial flight operations on October 1, 2026.

The initiative is part of the Zamfara State Government’s wider digital infrastructure programme and is designed to ensure that the airport has the connectivity required to support passengers, aviation personnel and other critical operations when commercial services begin.

A ZITDA technical team recently visited the airport to assess the facility and identify areas requiring immediate connectivity ahead of the planned deployment.

The Gusau International Airport internet infrastructure will cover key sections of the facility, including the domestic and international departure and arrival terminals.

It will also extend to the protocol and VIP lounges, control tower, fire station and other operational areas required for the smooth running of the airport.

Passengers are also expected to have access to free internet connectivity from the moment they arrive at the airport.

ZITDA said its role in the project goes beyond simply providing internet access, describing the deployment as part of a broader effort to establish the digital foundation needed for modern public services and a more connected Zamfara State.

The agency said reliable connectivity would support efficient communication and digital services within the airport while improving the experience for passengers and other users of the facility.

The project forms part of Governor Dauda Lawal’s wider digital transformation agenda, which seeks to expand technology infrastructure and improve access to digital services across the state.

The first phase of the state’s digital infrastructure expansion has already been completed across several government and public institutions.

The completed phase covers the Government House, JB Yakubu Secretariat Complex, State House of Assembly Complex and State High Court Complex.

It also includes Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the School of Nursing Sciences and the Zamfara Internal Revenue Service.

With Gusau International Airport preparing to receive commercial flights, ZITDA said the latest deployment is intended to ensure that the digital infrastructure develops alongside the state’s transport infrastructure.

The project comes as Zamfara prepares for a significant change in its aviation landscape, with the October 1 commencement of commercial operations expected to improve connectivity between the state and other parts of Nigeria.

For ZITDA, ensuring dependable internet access at the airport is therefore being positioned as an essential part of preparing the facility for modern commercial aviation.

The agency said the deployment would help create a more digitally enabled airport while supporting the state government’s broader objective of building efficient, technology-driven public infrastructure.
