Hon Longay accuses Governor Dapo Abiodun of hostile moves against Senator Gbenga Daniel, warning of rising political tensions in Ogun East

Hon Longay, former Ogun State House of Assembly member and All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Sagamu Local Government, has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of undertaking hostile actions against Senator Gbenga Daniel, heightening tensions within the ruling party.

The allegations stem from reported ambitions by Governor Abiodun to succeed Senator Daniel in the National Assembly after the senator’s current term.

Longay described these moves as targeted attempts to undermine the former governor’s influence in the Ogun East Senatorial District.

He cited the recent sealing of the Omo Ilu Foundation Complex in Ijebu Ode, carried out on Saturday, 29 November 2025, just a day before the BATOGD Movement Empowerment programme.

The programme formed part of Senator Daniel’s midterm assessment tour across all local government areas in the district, briefing constituents on national policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In an audio message made available to Freelanews, Hon Longay said the timing of the sealing appeared designed to frustrate Senator Daniel’s outreach efforts.

He argued that such actions were counterproductive, noting that they had inadvertently strengthened the senator’s standing among grassroots supporters.

Longay further linked the developments to long-standing disagreements within the APC, highlighting controversy over Governor Abiodun’s support for President Tinubu during the 2023 election.

He warned that continued hostilities could worsen the political climate and undermine party unity in Ogun State.

“The more Governor Abiodun tries to obstruct Senator Daniel, the more it galvanises support for him,” Longay said. “Persistent conflict risks creating avoidable tension among grassroots supporters and could threaten the cohesion of our party.”

The APC leader called on Governor Abiodun to reconsider his approach, emphasising that cooperative politics would better serve both party interests and constituents in the Ogun East Senatorial District.
