ICAN Mowe and District Society leaders urged to uphold integrity and serve members dutifully as Adekemi Adekunle is inaugurated as 8th chairman

Newly elected leaders of the ICAN Mowe and District Society have been urged to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness and inclusivity as they begin their 2025/2026 tenure.

The charge came during the investiture of Adekemi Adekunle as the 8th chairman of the district, held on Saturday at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Haruna Yahaya, represented by First Deputy Vice President Felix Osuji, praised the role of ICAN district societies and encouraged the new executives to prioritise members’ welfare while embracing service with humility.

“District societies are the heartbeat of our institute’s engagement. From capacity building to community relations, your role is vital,” Osuji said.

“To Mrs Kemi Adekunle and her team, approach this mandate with a deep sense of duty. Uphold the tenets of integrity, accuracy, and excellence that define ICAN.”

He also revealed that ICAN is working towards digitising its examination process by November 2025, a move he described as part of the institute’s commitment to innovation and progress.

Guest lecturer and Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Ibraheem Abdul, lamented the declining ethical standards in society, stating that technological growth has not translated into moral advancement.

He stressed that today’s leaders must model values even when integrity is lacking in the broader environment.

“Your goal is to champion integrity despite the compromise we have in our society,” Abdul said. “This is not just about managing systems, it is about leading ethically.”

In her acceptance speech, Adekunle pledged to lead with transparency and purpose, stating that the new executive would ensure all members are carried along.

“This is more than a title; it is a sacred call to serve,” she said. “This administration will be built on the pillars of inclusivity and shared purpose. Every voice will matter.”

She outlined her plans for the district, including enhancing capacity building, establishing a functional secretariat and strengthening professional advocacy.

With this new leadership, the ICAN Mowe and District Society sets its sights on sustaining relevance, building trust and advancing professional standards in Nigeria’s accounting sector.
